CD3: via MinnPost, VERBATIM: “Rep. Kelly Morrison, D-3rd District, is pressing for Congress to adopt her legislation aimed at combating any inflationary effects of Trump’s tariffs by exempting baby products from the new levies. … As a freshman lawmaker, Morrison hoped to join the bipartisan Problem Solvers caucus in Congress. But she said she has been unable to do so because she has not been able to convince a Republican to join with her — a requirement since the caucus is evenly split between Democrats and Republicans. Morrison said House GOP leaders are discouraging bipartisanship. ‘It’s really hard to find Republicans who are willing to work with Democrats,’ she said.” READ: https://fluence-media.co/4j3gIe8

MN GOP: via Star Tribune, VERBATIM: “Top officials in the Minnesota Republican Party recently gathered to take an unprecedented vote: formally condemning a right-wing group that has antagonized GOP elected officials for years. Action 4 Liberty was repeatedly attacking Republicans in the divided Minnesota House for compromising with Democrats, while also encouraging ‘grassroots patriots’ to oust party officers at local conventions and replace them with hardline activists. … The rebuke was the culmination of years of pent-up frustration toward Action 4 Liberty, a group that has deeply embedded itself in Minnesota Republican politics and is trying to reshape the party from the bottom up.” READ: https://fluence-media.co/42yry4R

They came out feeling optimistic that after failing to get one across the finish line last year, they would be able to come together to approve one this year. … Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy, DFL-St. Paul, [said] ‘I have a lot of confidence in the four chairs and their ability to begin to assemble, based on the abundance of needs across the state of Minnesota, a proposal that could find its way through the Legislature this session.’ … Committee chairs are still negotiating what the price point on such a bill should be and whether the state can afford it. Senate targets for a bonding bill were nearly double those put forward by the House.” READ: https://fluence-media.co/42azfiJ

SD6: via MPR News, VERBATIM: “Republicans in north-central Minnesota will vote Tuesday, April 15 to determine a nominee for a vacant state Senate seat in a race that will also showcase how allegiance to President Donald Trump is playing in areas he dominated in 2024. Eight Republicans are vying to replace Justin Eichorn. … Eichorn won in 2022 with nearly 64 percent of the vote, so there's a good chance the candidate who wins the Republican primary will go on to claim the Senate seat. … But Crow Wing County GOP chair Lowell Smith isn't taking anything for granted. ELLISON: FOX 9 has an in-depth look at a recording, seen in morning take last week, of the Minnesota attorney general speaking to Feeding Our Future defendants before they were formally accused of fraud. VERBATIM: “A meeting between Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison and several future Feeding Our Future defendants took place in December 2021. They asked for his help dealing with alleged racist actions by state agencies. … House Republicans accuse Ellison of soliciting campaign donations [from the defendants]. The recording does not support that. Rather, he is repeatedly offered contributions and later receives them, but he never asks [for donations] and deflects offers by saying this is not about his campaign. … The recording doesn’t necessarily suggest Ellison didn’t believe fraud was occurring. Rather, it sounded like he was unaware of any investigation into fraud.” READ/WATCH: https://fluence-media.co/42edpLn
MORE: Via KARE 11, Attorney General Keith Ellison’s office put out statements saying Ellison did not know the men he met in December 2021 or the details of the Feeding Our Future investigation, even though members of his office previously defended the Minnesota Department of Education from an FOF lawsuit. PUSH BACK AGAINST TAX BREAKS FOR BIG TECH DATA CENTERS: Our tax money should be going to essential services for Minnesotans, like education, health care, and infrastructure — not subsidies for billionaire owned data centers. The current tax credit has already cost our state an estimated $5 million a year since 2011. In 2025 it will be over $100 million. It’s time to stop these skyrocketing numbers. [Seven] days ago, they would have been $18,000. Neil Marriott, CEO of My Cable Mart, said he had to inform customers that prices on those items would increase 22%. … Six customers [then] canceled orders worth $50,000. But if My Cable Mart hadn’t raised the prices, it would have lost money on every order. … Marriott, like other leaders of small U.S. companies, is trying to decide what to do next — and for the rest of the year. … Companies that depend on imports for their livelihoods…say they are considering layoffs [or] taking out loans or lines of credit to cover the tariffs.” READ: https://fluence-media.co/4ibCJWP
